WEDNESDAY AWARDS DAY #3

A Day Late and a Dollar Short:

Well I suppose that I deserve fifty lashes with a wet noodle for letting this slip by me yesterday, but, as they say, better late then never.

What I am talking about are our veterans who have served bravely and honorably in the military, the ones who often go unrecognized, the unsung heroes, the women. I wish, in my own small way, to rectify this sad state of affairs by shedding light on these wonderful brave angels, and I can think of no better way to do it, then to recommend a book titled:

A Piece of My Heart

By Keith Walker

This book is about the stories of 26 American women (among the hundreds) who served in Vietnam. As many of you know by now, I was in Vietnam during the war, not in the military but as a missionary with the monastic group I was with, working with refugees and orphans. While I was there, I met many of the brave women serving in country, including two women mentioned in the book. Let me tell you a little about one of them, a woman by the name of Rose Sandecki, an Army Nurse.

Army Nurse Captain Rose Sandecki had joined the Army in 1968 and within three short months, she was sent to the 12th Evac Hospital at Cu Chi, Vietnam as head nurse of the surgical intensive care recovery room. It was at Cu Chi were I met her shortly after arriving in Vietnam myself. Capt. Sandecki served at Cu Chi from October 1968 to March 1969 when she was transferred to the 95th Evac Hospital in Da Nang from March 1969 to October 1969.

I highly recommend this book and urge each of you to read this book, as it will give you a new insight about the women who serve in our Armed Forces. I believe that this book should be available at most book stores and public libraries. It can also be purchased on line at Amazon.com. If you go to check out this book, please be sure to ask “A Piece of My Heart” by Keith Walker as there are a couple of other books out there by the same title and different authors.

Today’s “Wrath of God” Award for Shameless behavior goes to:

A 79 year-old Roman Catholic Nun (What, You thought it was just priests?) who pleaded “no contest” to two counts of indecent behavior with a child for alleged sexual encounters with two male students at a church convent and school where she was the principal during the 1960’s.

THE FOLLOWING IS JUST FOR LAUGHS:

ANATOMY 101

First-year students at a medical school were receiving their first
anatomy class with a real dead human body. They all gathered around the surgery table
with the body covered with a white sheet.

Professor Duncan started the class by telling them, "In medicine, it is
necessary to have 2 important qualities as a doctor. The first is that
you not be disgusted by anything involving the human body."

For an example, the Professor pulled back the sheet, stuck his finger
in the butt of the corpse, withdrew it and stuck his finger in his mouth.
"Go ahead and do the same thing," he told his students.

The students freaked out, hesitated for several minutes, but eventually
took turns sticking a finger in the butt of the dead body and sucking on it.

When everyone had finished, the Professor looked at them and told them, "The second most important quality is observation. I stuck in my middle finger and sucked on my index finger. Now learn to pay attention!"
