THURSDAY STUFF MUSINGS - #7

What Goes Around Comes Around:

Former New York State Governor, Elliot Spitzer, is just one more individual who gambled a great future on momentary pleasures, and who felt they were above the law, that they were too important to society that they didn’t have to answer to the law.

One of the most asked questions has been, “What was he thinking?” It is the exact same question that is asked every time some celebrity, star athlete, well to do politician, throws it all away by engaging in immoral or illegal activities. It is for this very reason that Bill Clinton’s presidency will for ever be remembered more for what was going on under his Oval Office desk, rather then what was going on at his desk.

Much of the MSM has built Elliot Spitzer up as being a bastion of moral superiority, a hero of ethical propriety, who had an unfortunate tumble off his high pedestal. But what is the real truth? Elliot Spitzer, contrary to popular belief had all the scruples of a Mafia hit man. He flaunted his power as a prosecutor like a little tyrant, using his power to ruin the lives and reputations of innocent people, even when he had no proof, no case to even bring a conviction against them. In short, Elliot Spitzer, for all of the money he was born into, for the best education he could afford, never was a hero of morality or ethical propriety. If any thing, he was nothing more than an egotistical, arrogant bully. The handwriting was on the wall when it was revealed that shortly after his election as governor, Spitzer used the New York State Police to try and dig up dirt on one of his political rivals, and when he attempted to ride rough shot over and by-pass the New York State legislature by signing an Executive Order to force the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles to issue drivers licenses to illegal immigrants, over the objections of the citizens of New York State. And how he promised the gay and lesbian community living in Greenwich Village in NYC, that one way or another, he was going to make same-sex marriages legal in New York State. Then, knowing he would have a tough fight with the New York State legislature, he managed to make an end run around the legislature by getting the New York State Supreme Court to rule that any gay or lesbian couple who went to Canada or to another state that allows same-sex marriages, to get married, then when they returned to New York State their marriage had to be legally recognized by the State.

It was his actions, going after businesses that helped to cause a lot of companies to leave New York State, which caused us hundreds, if not thousands of jobs. Because of his attacking businesses like some sort of rabid dog, the anti-business leftist zealots adored Spitzer and elevated him to hero status just like they did with Ralph Nader after Nader persecuted General Motors.

To those who like to feign shock over Spitzer’s plight, I have news for you. What Spitzer did was not out of character. It was something that was completely predictable for someone with an exaggerated sense of self-pride and self-importance and an arrogance that knew no bounds who had not only the ability but also the willingness to misuse his power to make or break innocent lives.

Spitzer even referred to himself as a “f_ _ _king steamroller” when going after ‘wrong doers’. The former head of Goldman Sachs, John Whitehead, had written an op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal, in which he criticized, then Attorney General, Spitzer’s handling of a case which involved Maurice Greenberg, Spitzer was quoted by Whitehead as saying: “I will be coming after you. You will pay the price. This is only the beginning and you will pay dearly for what you have done.” This shows that Spitzer thought of himself as a little tin god who could throw his weight around and bully people into silence, and who was exempt from the law and social mores that the rest of society is expected to abide by. It is very obvious that while growing up, Elliot Spitzer never learned humility.

The really frightening part of someone like Spitzer holding a powerful government office, is that so many Democrat pundits and ordinary citizens talking about the whole Spitzer affair as being nothing more than a “personal flaw” in Spitzer’s character that should not disqualify him from holding public office. It was this same thought pattern on the part of Democrats that kept Bill Clinton in office despite his immoral actions that brought shame and disgrace on the Office of the President of the United States. This type of thinking speaks volumes about the moral character of the majority of those who are Democrats and the kinds of morally bankrupt individuals they elect to represent them.

Spitzer himself spoke of this whole matter as being a “private” matter and a “personal” failing that has nothing to do with being governor of New York. We live in an age of over-blown political correctness in which we are frowned upon and ostracized by the “elite” if we judge the actions of others, and that one’s personal failings have no relevance to the performance of ones official duties. The problem is that this train of thought only seems to apply to those in public offices, movie and television stars and top athletes, and not to the average working stiffs. Thus, we have become a society where character doesn’t matter. But character does matter. When we entrust our children into the care of those who work in our public schools, we have to trust in the character of the teachers and school administrators. The same holds true when we elect presidents, senators, representatives, governors, mayors, etc., because our well-being and safety depends on the character of those whom we elect to rule over us.

We cannot afford the dubious luxury of being non-judgmental when it comes to those who we elect to lead our country. The future of this nation depends on our ability to properly judge the moral and ethical compass of those whom we elect to lead this nation. There are various flaws in the character of Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama, but if these flaws are pointed out, the one shinning the light on these flaws is accused of making personal attacks. Yet, how are we to trust a woman who has a history of lies and deceitful activities, not only as First Lady of the United States, but while she was First Lady of the state of Arkansas? A woman who used deceitful practices to get elected as Senator of New York State? Hillary Clinton, much like her husband Bill Clinton, has shown over and over again that she has no core moral values. She will change her political positions as often as most people change their underwear, depending on which way the liberal winds happen to be blowing, and she refuses to answer any questions concerning all of the various scandals she was involved in while her husband was president.

Barak Obama, despite his aura of being the ‘Second Coming’ of the Messiah, is having the light of day beginning to be shone on some of his character flaws, such as his financial and personal association with an individual who is presently under criminal indictment in the State of Illinois. Such an association is far from being “just a personal matter”, neither is his twenty-year history of belonging to a church whose pastor has praised the Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farakhan and who condemned the United States using obscene language.

Barak Obama freely chose to become a member of that church for twenty-years, he was not born into it, and like the old saying; “You can choose your friends but not your relatives.” The personal character of Barak Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain or any other individual who wishes to run for elective offices, counts just as much as the personal character of Elliot Spitzer.

The best warning I can give to anyone considering running for political office: “Be very careful of what you do and say and how you treat others, because what goes around comes around, and it just might bite you in the butt.”
